[YG-LIFE] 180409 BLACKPINK’s ‘BOOMBAYAH’ MV Surpasses 300 Million Views, Another Milestone Set By the ‘View Count Fairies’

BLACKPINK’s MV for ‘BOOMBAYAH’ set a milestone by surpassing 300 million views for the first time as a debut single.

As of April 9, 1 AM, the video for ‘BOOMBAYAH’ surpassed 300 million views. The song was released back in August 8, 2016. To celebrate BLACKPINK’s new record, YG Entertainment revealed a special celebration poster through their official blog on April 9, at 8 AM.


‘BOOMBAYAH’ has the record of surpassing 10 million views in 5 days since its release, and 100 million views in 177 days. While the song became the first debut single to surpass 200 million views in K-Pop history, now they have renewed their own record by surpassing 300 million views. No other debut singles in K-Pop history has more view counts than BLACKPINK’s ‘BOOMBAYAH’.

The song ‘BOOMBAYAH’ was a double-title track from their debut single album ‘SQUARE ONE’, along with the song ‘WHISTLE’. The strong drums and its unique synth sounds impress the listeners, and the chorus of the song that shouts ‘oppa’ is very catchy.

The song also became the first track by a rookie girl-group to top the US Billboard ‘World Digital Song Chart’, proving the group’s global popularity.

As a girl-group from YG Entertainment in 7 years should, BLACKPINK is currently very popular with their extraordinary talents and musicality. Their march on setting new view count records is still ongoing, as people call the group ‘record breakers’ and ‘view count fairies’ as their nicknames.

All 5 music videos released by BLACKPINK since debut including ‘WHISTLE’, ‘BOOMBAYAH’, ‘PLAYING WITH FIRE’, ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’, and ‘STAY’ have over 100 million views.

Music fans are currently paying close attention since the MV for the song ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’ is also about to surpass 300 million views.
