About BLACKPINK

Know more about our girl crush quartet, JenChuLiChaeng!

BLACKPINK is a four-member group consisting of Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé. They are the latest girl group from YG Entertainment after seven years, following 2NE1. A team of pretty visuals as well as talented and artistic individuals, they were first introduced in 2012 with “Who’s That Girl???” teaser series. With most members spending their childhood in foreign countries, the girls are fluent in Korean, English and Japanese, adding up their international appeal suggesting that they were formed to conquer not just the Korean music industry but the global stage as well!

BLACKPINK members has been introduced since 2012 and has done a couple of gigs here and there pre-debut. Check out the various activities the girls were involved with while they were still trainees by clicking the button below.

BLACKPINK debuted on August 8th of 2016 with single album “SQUARE ONE” which includes dual title tracks ‘BOOMBAYAH’ and ‘WHISTLE’. ‘WHISTLE’ is a catchy hip-hop song that presents BLACKPINK’s groovy rap and soulful vocals while ‘BOOMBAYAH’ is EDM (cross-over) combined with electronic house and dance hall, a mega-trend genre that is sweeping American Billboard recently.

On November 1, 2016, BLACKPINK returned with the single album “SQUARE TWO” featuring two title tracks ‘PLAYING WITH FIRE’, a tropical house genre with medium tempo & a strong main synth sound and ‘STAY’, a song that boasts tender harmonica sound and sentimental guitar melody.

As a surprise gift to fans while the group is preparing for their next album, BLACKPINK came back into the KPOP scene dropping the single ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’ which is like a cool drink that will take away the summer heat. It’s a fun, cute and BLACKPINK’s fastest track with lyrics talking about the excitement of love.

On July 20, 2017, BLACKPINK kicked-off their Japanese debut with a ‘Premium Debut Showcase’ held in Nippon Budokan Arena gathering a 14,000 crowd with 200,000 applying to get seats. They released their self-titled Japan debut mini album on August 30th, 2017 making TV appearances and holding fansign events. The quartet has also performed in various Japanese events like Tokyo Girls Collection and a-nation and became frequent cover muses for Japanese magazines including but not limited to GQ Japan, Nylon Japan and Elle Japan. A repackaged album title was released later in March 28, 2018.

After a year-long hiatus in the Korean music scene, on June 15, 2018, BLACKPINK dropped their very first mini album “SQUARE UP” with title song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and B-side tracks ‘FOREVER YOUNG’, ‘REALLY’ and ‘SEE U LATER’. The album and ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ broke several records and garnered a couple of achievements both domestically and internationally as soon they came out!

By October of 2018, it was revealed that YG Entertainment signed with Universal Music Group (UMG) and Interscope Records in a global partnership for BLACKPINK. UMG and Interscope will help promote the group globally, outside of Asia.

BLACKPINK made a comeback on April 4, 2019 with another mini album and title track of the same name, “KILL THIS LOVE”. The EP included B-side tracks ‘DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO’, ‘KICK IT’ and ‘HOPE NOT’ as well as a remix version of their hit song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’.

On June 26th 2020, BLACKPINK made a comeback after more than a year with the pre-release single, ‘How You Like That’ which is a hip-hop track with BLACKPINK’s signature charms and charismatic sounds. The ambient and grand orchestra sounds dominate the mood from its intro, and BLACKPINK begins their strong conduction. The elating vocals and the explosive drop part of ‘How You Like That’, which follow the change of their determined emotions, alter the mood of the song instantly. The beat becomes more powerful as the song progresses and emphasizes BLACKPINK’s message to move forward and rise up in any bad circumstances.

‘Ice Cream’, collaborated by BLACKPINK and Popstar Selena Gomez, is Dance/Pop song with fresh and exciting sounds that go well with the hot summer. The lyrics stand out by using the metaphor that although one may seem cold from the outside, she could actually be sweet like ice cream. BLACKPINK’s main producer TEDDY and global producing team including Tommy Brown, Mr. Franks, and 24 worked on the track together. With a fun song that Selena Gomez and BLACKPINK’s own colors and characters create harmony, the group is raising the global fans’ expectations.

‘THE ALBUM’, the official debut album of BLACKPINK who grew as global artists since their debut back in 2016 through ‘SQUARE ONE’, will be released on October 2nd.

‘Lovesick Girls’, the title song of BLACKPINK’s ‘THE ALBUM’, is composed of country-style guitar riffs with a refined melodies that leads the overall mood of the song, and the powerful vocals of BLACKPINK with the retro sound raise the tension of the song. The lyrics of the song question why people still look for new love despite their wounds and pain. The fact that members JISOO and JENNIE participated in the composing and writing of the song each for the first time raises the fans’ anticipation.

Apart from ‘Lovesick Girls’, the album contains BLACKPINK’s unique characters and sounds, from the charismatic Hip-hop sounds of ‘How You Like That’ which proved the group’s global influence, to the exciting and poppy melodies of ‘Ice Cream’ which also features a Popstar, Selena Gomez. BLACKPINK’s ‘THE ALBUM’ will present the group’s boundless musical spectrums.

SOLO RELEASES

11.12.2018: SOLO
Jennie’s 1st Solo Single

‘SOLO’ is a hip-hop track that incorporates elements of pop music, which includes sophisticated producing and song-writing by ‘TEDDY’ and ‘24’ which stand out throughout the track. The straightforward and sincere lyrics that stand on top of the beautiful chords and simple melody line on the intro naturally lead the listeners to pay attention, while the rising energy, strong bass, and the catchy lead sounds of the DROP that contrasts with the intro make JENNIE’s outer and inner self that coexist as a young girl and a strong independent woman stand out.

03.12.2021: -R-
Rosé’s 1st Solo Album

ROSÉ’s first-ever solo single album -R-, the first letter of her name, signifies her ‘new beginning as a solo artist’.

The title track ‘On The Ground’ was produced by global producers from overseas, including Jorgen Odegard and ojivolta, along with The Black Label’s representative producers, TEDDY and 24. The mystic sounds with lingering tension create harmony with ROSÉ’s unrivaled smooth vocals, presenting a new sense of satisfaction for the listeners. The lyrics, which state that we’ve always run towards a higher place, but the important value is within ourselves, make us realize the things we were missing as we live in this era.

We hope to share ROSÉ’s message she intends to deliver with her first-ever single album, through a resonant song created with ROSÉ’s sweet and delicate yet powerful and rough vocals, along with her musical maturity presented like a beautiful film.

09.10.2021: LALISA
Lisa’s 1st Solo Album

LISA’s confidence in this album is felt straight away, with the title of the album being ‘LALISA’, her own name. By putting her real name as the album title, the album portrays self-love and confidence, adding even more meaning to it.

There are two tracks in the single, ‘LALISA’ and ‘MONEY’. Mega hitmaker TEDDY, who has been working with her since her debut, Bekuh BOOM, 24, Vince, and R.Tee took part in the album making.

The hip-hop based song is not only addictive but showcases LISA’s presence as a solo artist with her dynamic rap skill, which is one of her strengths.

It’s now time for LISA, who has already established herself as an icon of pop culture, to shine even brighter with this new era of her career.
